Student Invited to Perform Blip Music Festival
2nd February 2010
Adelaide composer and former SAE Institute student Sebastian Tomczak was recently invited to present his work at New York’s 3-day arts and music event, Blip Music Festival.
The progressive “chip music” festival, now one of the world’s largest and longest running events of its kind, continues to evolve each year, displaying work from a range of international composers who use sounds extracted from computer or video games.
Sebastian’s work included noises gathered from obsolete video games, joining the likes of other performers who had derived their music samples from former heavyweights of computing such as the Commodore 64 and Amiga, the Atari ST and 2600, and the Nintendo Entertainment System and Gameboy, and giving a whole new spin on the concept of Electronic Music. The 3-day event was held just before Christmas and looks like it was an unique and interesting couple of days!
In other exciting Adelaide news, Diploma of Music Industry student Vaughan Scott-Hoy, spent 2009 juggling his studies at SAE with completing his final year of high school at Faith Lutheran School in Tanunda just north of Adelaide. Not only did Vaughan graduate from Faith Lutheran, he also managed to achieve a Year 12 Merit for Vocational Studies. Congratulations of the fantastic achievement!
